At Eternel Hemp, we grow hemp plants in the inner city of Wilmington, DE, for CBD manufacturers around the country.
What is CBD? What are the market opportunities? What’s creating the CBD craze?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of 113 identified compounds in cannabis. The other most famous compound is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the active ingredient in cannabis that “gets you high”.
CBD has no psychoactive effects. No matter how much you consume, you won’t get high from it.
The body has cannabinoid receptors throughout the body.
“Cannabinoid receptors, located throughout the body, are part of the endocannabinoid system, which is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory. Cannabinoid receptors are of a class of cell membrane receptors in the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily.” - Wikipedia
All of that means that CBD interacts with the body in various ways.
There is significant evidence that it helps with brain function, reduces anxiety, reduces pain, and promotes overall health. Some of the effects that are being studied are that CBD can kill cancer cells, that it reduces heart disease, and that it can battle major depression.
Because the field of cannabis/hemp research only opened up in earnest in 2018 with passage of the Farm Bill that year, there is a lot of study to be done.
What does all of this mean for Eternel Hemp and the other businesses tied to hemp? Growth. Massive long-term growth.
Already, there is more than enough to recommend CBD for lots of disorders, such as anxiety, arthritis, and muscle ache.
All it will take is a single, good longitudinal study stating CBD fights Type II diabetes or prevents heart disease and demand will skyrocket. And it’s already growing at 22% per year!
At this time, there’s no need to wait for a new study; there’s plenty of evidence that CBD is powerful to recommend its use now.
We’re just watching the horizon for the next major study to open up even more opportunities.
If you’re in the hemp industry, what do you see as the next big wave? What effects do you think will drive sales in the next few years?
